La « première » s’est achevée sur les bords du Lac Rose le 11 janvier dernier au terme de 13 jours sur le continent africain (dont 12 en course)… L’AFRICA RACE est de retour en 2010. Cette deuxième édition se déroulera du 26 décembre 2009 au 10 janvier 2010 sur un parcours « traditionnel », mais inédit dans le choix de son tracé, qui conduira les concurrents d’une ville Européenne à la Capitale Sénégalaise en passant par le Maroc et la Mauritanie. Rendez-vous mythique, cette traversée du Sahara du Nord au Sud n’est certes pas une découverte, mais l’AFRICA RACE tient à souligner toute sa magie en lui insufflant un certain parfum d’aventure, celui des Rallyes au long cours où le terme de « Marathon » prend tout son sens. Continent pour le moins fascinant, l’Afrique est loin d’avoir livré tous ses secrets…
Basée sur l’échange, la passion, la convivialité et le partage avec les populations des pays traversés, l’AFRICA RACE n’est pas tout à fait une course comme les autres. Elle est née du désir de pays africains de voir la création d’un nouveau Rallye Raid dans leur région et de la volonté de passionnés. Le Maroc, la Mauritanie et le Sénégal ont accueilli avec bonheur et fierté les acteurs de la première édition en souhaitant avec détermination la pérennité de cette aventure…
L’ESPRIT AFRICA RACE…
C’est avant tout un désir de simplicité, de convivialité et d’authenticité dans
le déroulement d’une course où les valeurs sportives et humaines ont pris le pas
sur le superficiel.
L’AFRICA RACE propose à ses concurrents plus de proximité et un réel esprit
d’entraide. Le terrain exigeant, la difficulté ou la solitude deviennent alors
des catalyseurs d’adrénaline.
Les situations parfois « cocasses » déclenchent cet indéfinissable frisson que
recherchent les concurrents, mais quoiqu’il arrive, c’est le plaisir qui suscite
la passion. Le plaisir de longer un Erg infini où l’horizon ne s’ouvre que sur
une mer de sable. La beauté d’un plateau du sommet duquel il faudra descendre en
trouvant la bonne passe. Réflexion, choix et décision feront la différence sur
le chrono. Pour certains, la navigation pourra se transformer en séance de
jardinage géante, mais qu’importe, entre herbe à chameau, cassant, roulant et
franchissement, il faudra aller au bout sans ménager ses efforts.
Alors qu’importe… se planter au sommet d’une dune, se noyer dans le fesh-fesh,
aborder une descente infernale ou amorcer un devers incertain sont autant
d’émotions que le compétiteur se devra de vivre et de faire partager. Les plus
belles galères font les plus beaux souvenirs, surtout quand ils sont partagés.
Et c’est ainsi que le bivouac devient chaque soir, dans la plus pure tradition
africaine, la version moderne de l’arbre à palabres. Celui-là même où les sages
et les novices échangent leurs expériences. Sous une tente Caïdale, Berbère ou
Mauritanienne, chacun raconte ses exploits du jour avec enthousiasme, sans y
omettre une petite pointe d’héroïsme…
Au bout du périple, l’Afrique aura alors offert à ces privilégiés ce qu’elle a
de plus beau. Des paysages à couper le souffle et la rencontre avec ses peuples.
Une rencontre qui ne peut laisser indifférent ….

Cet esprit n’exclue pas le soutien des Fédérations auto et moto concernées,
garantes de l’application des règlements. La course est inscrite au Calendrier
International F.I.A et F.I.M. L’AFRICA RACE est une épreuve ouverte aux autos,
motos, quads et camions.
En moto, on retrouvera les catégories traditionnelles : Production, Sport,
Extrême et Quad. Sur quatre roues, T1, T2 pour les autos et T4 pour les camions,
sans oublier la catégorie Open (véhicules non homologués en T1, T2 ou T4).

The inaugural race having drawn to a close on the shores of the Rose Lake on January 11th, AFRICA RACE will be back again in 2010. This second edition will take place from December 26th 2009 to January 10th 2010, following a ‘traditional’ itinerary, but with an original choice in terms of the actual route, which will take the competitors from a European city to the capital of Senegal via Morocco and Mauritania. A legendary event, this trip across the Sahara from the north to the south is not exactly a voyage of discovery, but the aim of AFRICA RACE is to place the emphasis on its magic, adding a slight touch of adventure, that of a long-distance Rally, where the term ‘marathon’ takes on a whole new meaning. A fascinating continent, Africa has not yet unveiled all its secrets…
Based on cultural exchanges, passion, conviviality and sharing with the inhabitants of the countries it crosses, AFRICA RACE is a race unlike the others. It was born from the wish of African countries for a new Rally Raid in their region, and from the will of those who love this sport. Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal greeted the first edition with joy and pride, with the firm desire to see this adventure continue…
THE SPIRIT
OF AFRICA RACE…
First and foremost, it is the desire for simplicity, conviviality and
authenticity, running an event where sporting and human value are more important
than superficial issues.
AFRICA RACE offers
its competitors closer proximity and a real spirit of mutual aid. The
challenging terrain, difficulties and solitude become a catalyst for adrenaline.
The sometimes comical situations give that indefinable tingle down the spine for
which the competitors are searching, but whatever happens, it is the delight
that gives rise to the passion. The delight of crossing an interminable Erg,
where the only thing on the horizon is a sea of sand. The beauty of a plateau,
and the challenge of finding the right way down. Consideration, choices and
decisions, which will all have an affect on the times set. For some,
navigational issues may result in a gigantic ‘gardening session’ but whatever
happens, with the camel grass, rough terrain and dunes to cross, the aim is to
reach the end, after plenty of effort and hard work.
Getting beached on the top of dune, stuck in the fesh-fesh, heading down an
infernal descent or negotiating an uncertain slope all bring emotions that the
competitor will get through and will share. The worst hassles can make the best
memories, especially when they are shared. And that is why, every evening, and
according to the purest African traditions, the bivouac becomes a modern version
of the talking tree. The place where the wise men and the novices compare their
experiences. Under a Berber or Mauritanian tent, each tells of his day’s
adventure with enthusiasm, without forgetting a little heroism.
By the end of the adventure, Africa will have given these privileged few its
greatest treasures. Breath-taking landscapes and the opportunity to meet the
people. Something that cannot fail to touch hearts and minds…
OPEN TO ALL
CATEGORIES!
This spirit does not mean excluding the support of the automobile and motorbike
sporting Federations, standing guarantee for the regulations being applied. The
event is entered on the international calendars of both the F.I.A and the F.I.M.
AFRICA RACE is open to cars, bikes, quads and trucks.
For motorbikes, the traditional categories will be taking part: Production,
Sport, Extreme and Quad. As far as four-wheeled vehicles are concerned, T1 and
T2 for the cars, and T4 for the trucks, not forgetting the Open category, open
to vehicles not homologated in T1, T2 or T4.
